Audi A4 B7 2.0T Air Filter Install
Make your engine breathe cleaner air!
If an air filter is doing it’s job, it will get dirty. As a filter gets dirty, the amount of air that can flow through it is reduced. Without the proper amount of air, the engine will not be able to produce the power it should; nor it will be as fuel efficient as it should be. On turbocharged engines, air filtration is particularly important as debris can damage or destroy a very expensive turbocharger.
Audi Models
- Audi A4 B7 (2005 – 2008)
Parts Required
Tools Required
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
Instructions
Step 1
Unscrew the (2) Phillips head screws that hold the air duct in.
Step 2
Remove air duct. The duct is in two pieces. The first piece (the part closer to the front of the car) should be separated from the second part and be pulled towards the back of the car for removal. The second part of the air duct lifts out of its location.
Step 3
Unclip the three clips that hold the adjacent line to the airbox. Simply grab the metal clip and pull it away from the airbox.
Step 4
Loosen, but do not remove, the two upper bolts on the airbox using the Phillips head screwdriver.
Step 6
Pull and separate the side of the airbox closest to the motor towards the motor and remove the old air filter, noting its orientation. Clean the debris out of the airbox and reinstall the new air filter. The orange lip should be closest to the motor.
Step 7
Reassemble in reverse order. Double check all connections to make sure they are tight.
Step 8
You are done!

Hey Daniil,
Thanks for the post on the air cleaner. I did mine today. One thing that was not mentioned in your article is that there is a fine mesh screen located at the top of the airhorn pictured in your photo #04.
This mesh screen is meant to catch leaves, grass, debris enroute to the filter. I found mine quite plugged.
Blew it out with air then washed it using a mild detergent and fresh water then blew the water away with air and re-installed.
Hope this helps someone else!
Thanks for the fine mesh screen notation. It could easly be missed. Mine was clogged too, after only 10K miles.
Original article was of great help as well.
I second Brian’s comment… mine was half clogged with all sorts of crap.
Great article
What air filter do you guys recomment for a 2006 a4 2.0T Because iv heard from other people high end air filters like k&N are actually bad for German cars.
Thanks for the instructions!
@ Almedin…. I’ve been running a K&N filter on my 06 A4 wil APR stage 1 ECU 93 program for 2 years now and have had no problems. I don’t see how a K&N could be bad for any vehicle.
Thanks for the instructions on changing the air filter. I just changed my with a K&N filter.
My 2006 A4 2.0T does not have the 3 clips, just the two screws and it has a heat shield bolted to the air cleaner box. Your photos and instructions do not mention this. If someone has more info, please e-mail me.
Thanks

I usually clean the fine screen every time I change the oil. Also, whenever I replace the air filter I clean the air flow sensor with a cleaner.
Thank you for posting this instruction.
Excellent writeup and pictures! Re-read this twice in 5 minutes and completed the swap my first time in under 30 minutes (taking my time).
Please keep the B7 content coming!
How often is it recommended that you change the air filter?
is it required to disconnect the battery if replacing the old oem filter with an K&N…… to reprogram the computer?
